Ready to Register

Welcome to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute blog! Here you’ll be able to keep updated on student performances, programs, events, faculty recitals and get a little peek into what happens behind the scenes on the 45 West Street BUTI campus.

On campus we’ve been diligently preparing for our students arrival – after spending months working in Boston, the core staff moved into Lenox almost three weeks ago to start preparations at Groton Place. About a week later the Student Life team moved in to begin training staff and prepping dormitories. We have all spent the past few weeks preparing for our students with CPR and first aid training, group bonding over high ropes, and finally by matching each RA to their perfect counterparts.

Now the piano tuners have arrived, the dining staff has perfected their service, the nurses have instructed us on the protocol of any bump or scrape we may come across… we’re ready!

Sunday, June 16th Registration Day begins at Groton Place and from 10-4 the young musicians (and their families) whom we’ve been so eager to meet, will finally arrive on campus. Upon arrival, students will first be directed towards tables set up by their individual workshops with all of their academic information. They’ll register, get their student ID cards and then have the opportunity to meet their RAs and set up their dorm rooms. Around 5:30, we’ll be hosting Opening Ceremonies where  students and their parents will hear a brief faculty performance and listen to a student speaker. At the close of the ceremony, participating families will join us for a BBQ on site before saying their goodbyes. Students will then join us for a Campus Orientation to meet all of our staff more formally. At 9:30, all students will attend a brief floor meeting with their RAs and new roommates in their dorms. And the first long, exciting day at BUTI will come to a close!

We are all so looking forward to meeting the new BUTI class of 2013. We plan to match their talent and dedication to classical music with a summer that they will never forget. Travel safe tomorrow!
